UPDATE: Govt to develop bill on private investors’ access to Arctic shelf

MOSCOW, Aug 26 (PRIME) -- The Russian government will develop a bill to allow private investors to work on the Arctic shelf, Deputy Far East Development Minister Alexander Krutikov told reporters on Monday.

“A government meeting was held by two deputy prime ministers, Dmitry Kozak and Yury Trutnev, with participation of three federal ministers. A decision was made to prepare a bill that will expand access to the development of the Arctic shelf to private investors. We will prepare the relevant bill,” he said.

Kozak’s representative Ilya Dzhus told reporters that Kozak and Trutnev discussed general issues of stimulating the development of the Arctic shelf at a meeting on Monday, and a relevant draft bill will be devoted to them.

“General issues of stimulating the Arctic shelf development were discussed at a joint meeting of Kozak and Trutnev, a ruling will be given to develop a relevant bill,” Dzhus said.

A source told reporters after the meeting that private investors’ access to the Arctic shelf is being discussed only in relation to 10% of undistributed licenses.
